Brian Francis McNamee -- December 3, 1956 – December 23rd, 2015

Place of Birth:  Derry, NH

Brian McNamee, Quincy Massachusetts Ward 6 Councilor, passed away the evening of Wednesday 23, 2015 after a short battle with cancer at the age of 59.  Family and friends surrounded him at the time of his death.

He moved to Quincy shortly after college to raise a family and start a career.  Brian McNamee became active in the community and local politics.  Before joining the city council, he was a member of the city’s zoning board of appeals for many years. He was known as the unconventional city councilor serving Ward 6 since 2005.  Ward 6 covers Squantum, Marina Bay and sections of North Quincy and Wollaston.  He was straightforward and the consummate fighter for all the people of Quincy.  For more information about Brian’s political career, please go to BrianMcNamee.com.

"Quincy’s challenge, as I see it, is to make sure 'good government' is government that’s good for all and not just a connected few," McNamee 2012.

Brian most recently worked as Special Sheriff and Chief Financial Officer for Norfolk County Sheriff’s Office.

"He was an extraordinary public servant who fought for the underdog every day and never forgot why he was elected and who elected him," Norfolk County Sheriff Michael Bellotti, a friend of McNamee's, said.

He is survived by his daughter Maura McNamee of Quincy and three siblings; Russell McNamee of Virginia, Deirdre McNamee and Marguerite McKeeman of Portsmouth RI.  Brian McNamee’s late parents were Margaret Russell and Augustine Miles McNamee.  His father was a doctor and the former Chief of the Anesthesiology Department at the Rhode Island Hospital.   His mother was born and raised in County Cork Ireland before immigrating to the United States at the age of 20.  She was a nurse and a strong advocate for the homeless.  His mother’s clan the Russell’s from Quincy and Boston were close family supports of Brian.

Brian grew up in the town of Rumford, R.I. a subdivision of East Providence.  He graduated from Saint Raphael Academy in Pawtucket, RI, and then attended Tabor Academy in Marion, Mass. for a year before attending college.  McNamee was a standout football player in high school. The Providence Journal's sports writers selected him as an all-state tackle in 1974, and area football coaches named him an all-state tackle that same year. He attended college at Villanova University and received a BA in Political Science in 1980.  In 1986 he received an MBA from University of Massachusetts at Boston.  His interests included sports, politics, amateur radio, and photography.

His real passion was politics and fighting for those who did not have a voice.  His past civic activities included memberships to the Knights of Columbus and the Quincy Elks and Massachusetts Government Finance Officers Association, and he served on the board of advisers for the UMass-Boston College of Management.

Brian’s voice will be missed from the streets of Quincy!

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday December 29th at 10AM at the Sacred Heart Church. Visiting hours will also be held at Sacred Heart Church on Monday December 28th from 4pm until 8pm.
