Susan Dorothy Adams Peterson, 69, affectionately known by loved ones as "Mumma Sue", passed away unexpectedly on April 19th, after an awe-inspiring, unyielding battle with deteriorating health. Susan was a 1967 graduate of North Quincy High School, after which she spent 34 years as a nurse, primarily at the Brockton VA. She retired from the VA after serving as the Associate Chief Nurse of Psychiatry. She volunteered for many VA events, including Talent Shows, Wheelchair Games and served on the board at NARFE. Susan was a funny, social, wise, beautiful woman who was beloved by all. She was the life of every party, especially when she threw them. And she made sure to make ten side dishes for everyone else's parties, unprompted! Ever the fashionista, she would never be caught in jeans and was the only nurse to carry a briefcase. From her Karmann Ghia to her Z3, she never met a convertible she didn't like! She was a talented seamstress, crafter, carpenter, cook and baker.
She is preceded in death by Sister Delores Adams Boyd, Brother George Adams, parents George and Gloria Frongello Adams of Quincy, and fiance John Little of Lakeville. She is survived by the children she lived for, Erik Peterson-Eacott (Jennifer) of Needham, Melanie Peterson (David) of San Diego, CA, siblings Jacquie Lydon (Jack) of Quincy, Rick Adams (Lisa) of Boston, Lisa Adams of Quincy, nieces Gia and Riki of Boston, Roxanne and Jonlyn of Quincy, and grandchildren Zack and Noah of Needham, in addition to many loving friends.
A wake will be held at Hamel, Wickens and Traupe in Quincy from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 28th and will include a brief service to wish Susan a fond farewell. If you'd like to make a donation on Susan's behalf, in memory of her journey as an independent quadriplegic and her service to wounded Veterans, please send donations to the Christopher Reeve charity "Life Rolls On".
