Evan Jones, 19, of Milton died September 6 while at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst after many years living with epilepsy. Evan was a 2012 graduate of Milton High School.
Evan leaves his parents Kristan Bagley Jones and Don Jones, his sister Ally, and his beloved dog Sandy. Family was extremely important to Evan, whether it was spending Sundays together as "family" day, watching The Office or dancing in the kitchen with his family. He was affectionate and loving to his mom, dad and sister. He loved being a big brother, a mentor, a trusted advisor and a coach to his sister Ally. He also leaves two grandmothers, a host of cousins, aunts and uncles, and many cousins stretching from New Hampshire to Boston to Philadelphia. He loved spending time with his family on Cape Cod as well as the Jersey Shore. He considered his friends as an extension of his family, spending countless hours in the garage, in the basement or at the fields.
He attended the Milton Public Schools, beginning at Collicot Elementary School, Pierce Middle School and Milton High. His parents are grateful for his many special teachers in Milton. An avid reader beginning with Harry Potter in the first grade, Evan loved to go to Barnes and Nobles for a new book, or download books on his Nook. He was a wonderful student who enjoyed physics, history and English. Evan also had an artistic side and won an honorable mention for photography in the 2012 Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards. He also loved watching television series and would constantly lasso his friends and family into watching marathons on Netflix. In 2012, he went off to UMass Amherst and envisioned a future career that blended his love of computer science and his interest in the law while keeping physical fitness as a way of life.
From a young age, he was happy playing on a field, gym or court and was well known in the Milton athletic scene. He spent hours working out in the gym and would often drag along a friend to share a new weightlifting technique. He was a talented and tenacious multi-sport athlete. He never let his seizure disorder stand in the way of athletic competition. Although competition fueled his participation, he formed many friendships during his athletic endeavors. He leaves many friends in different sports and leagues including Mustangs football, Saint Agatha CYO basketball, and Milton Little League and Babe Ruth baseball.
At Milton High, he was captain of the freshman football team and captain of the varsity lacrosse team; he played basketball for four years.His lacrosse Coach, Ben Midura said of Evan’s character, “loyalty, kindness and sincerity allowed him to share his life with many close friends and family. He was a good person in every sense of the word and surrounded himself with other good people." Evan’s high school basketball coach and history teacher, Billy Donovan, remarked, “Evan always demonstrated a passion to give his best effort in everything that he did, both in the classroom and on the basketball court.”

Visiting hours will be held in the First Parish Church Milton on Friday, September 13 from 4-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the Celebration of Evan’s life on Saturday, September 14 at 11 A.M. in the First Parish Church, of Milton, Unitarian Universalist, 535 Canton Ave., Milton.
