Joan Murray Obituary

Joan M. “Miss. Thom” Murray, 78, of Wareham, a beloved Hyde Park teacher, died October 18, 2018.

Miss Thom taught math for 33 years at Hyde Park High School where she was a respected member of the faculty and  member of the Boston Teachers Union. She was an exuberant, longtime season tickets holder of the Boston Red Sox and also an avid fan the New England Patriots. A world traveler, she enjoyed the many and varied trips she took over the years. 

She was a daughter of the late Catherine (McKenna) and James E. Thom, Sr. Devoted wife of the late James E. Murray. Sister of the late James E. Thom, Jr. and Claire F. Belrose and her husband Ronald of Rochester. Dear Aunt of Joseph Campisi, Gina Charbonneau and Thom Jones. Great Aunt of Victoria and Brianna Charbonneau and Madison Jones.

Visitation Monday October 22 from 10:00 - 11:00am at Hamel-Lydon Chapel & Cremation Service, 650 Hancock Street, Quincy, followed by a graveside service at Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West St, Braintree. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Joan’s memory to The Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or The Boston Red Sox Foundation, 4 Yawkey Way, Boston, MA 02215.
